• To provide an inter-campus organization for research and training in the rapidly developing field of bioengineering in the entire
University of California system.
• To foster new intellectual collaborations among campuses in the interdisciplinary field of bioengineering, which is rapidly evolving on
virtually every UC campus and intersects the intellectual pursuits of many departments in sciences, medicine, and engineering.
• To stimulate new sources of extramural research funding involving interdisciplinary, multi-campus collaborations.
• To foster innovative and original research by enhancing inter-campus exchange of information
through system-
wide symposia and
workshops and the inter-campus exchange of faculty and students.
• To enhance the quality of the Bioengineering training programs in the UC system through inter-campus collaboration and exchange.
• To provide a broad framework for the expansion of biotechnology and biomedical engineering research in the UC system at a time
when the State of California is experiencing a rapid growth in the industrial sector in this field.
• To foster technology transfer to industry and clinical medicine and outreach to the public through synergy among the UC campuses.
